Last weekend I made the drive from Lafayette, LA to Medicine Hat, AB (Canada). When I had brought up the idea of riding with a friend up there I had one exception, we had to stop at Glacier National Park in Montana. It was a 46 hour road trip with stops. Driving through parts of Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and then finally Canada. During our time in Colorado, I photographed an engagement session for some friends of mine. I had been dreaming about going here for over 10 years. It was just I had imagined it being. We had to drive in on Going to the Sun road due to forest fire activity, which gave us more time there. The road felt like it was just an extension of the mountain. It was like in the movies when people are walking a trail and there is two inches on the shoulder so there is absolutely no room for error.
Glacier National Park is one of those places you keep dreaming about once you’ve been. Every way you look there is view. Lake McDonald is stunning at sunrise. It was possible that we were the only two people awake at that time. There is just something about the Rocky Mountain Range. Maybe it’s how big it is. Or how small it makes me feel. I also think it is something about the mountains that make me feel whole again. There are few things better than feeling truly refreshed after a trip. Some of our trips leave us feeling this way while others make me feel like I need another week off to recoup from it. I seriously cannot wait to make another trip back up here. I will definitely need to spend more than a day here!
